TL;DR: Check this page before applying any Azure Local update. Feature releases are mandatory and require a matching DataON SBE package. If a release is marked Hold or Proceed with guidance, read the linked article first.

Select a release number to see Microsoft’s list of what’s new in that release. Microsoft sometimes re-releases an update with a new build number to fix specific issues. Compare your cluster’s solution version to the Current build column, and check Earlier build? to see whether you need the newer one. Build numbers come from Microsoft’s Azure Local release information page.

How to read this table

DataON status

  •  Not yet available  — not released yet, or DataON SBE validation is still in progress. For feature releases, the Azure portal shows the update as Pending OEM Validation. Do not apply.
  •  Monitoring  — released, with no known issues so far, but limited field data. If you can wait, wait. If not, update a non-critical cluster first.
  •  Recommended  — validated by DataON and proven in the field.
  •  Proceed with guidance  — follow the linked article first.
  •  Hold  — do not apply.
  • No color — no DataON-specific guidance.

Platform series

When DataON validates a feature release’s SBE package separately for each platform series, the release shows a separate status for each series. Follow the status for your series only. Your series is the first digit of your model number: for example, an AZL-8224i is 8000 series.

Earlier build?

You already installed a release, and Microsoft has since published a newer build of it. Do you need the newer one?

  • No action needed — stay where you are. The fix doesn’t affect DataON systems, or it arrives with your next monthly update.
  • Apply the current build — install it now. It fixes an issue that matters for your cluster.
  • See linked KB — it depends on your setup. Follow the article in the Guidance column.

Example

Your cluster is on 12.2604.1003.1002.

The 2604 row shows Current build .1006, with .1002 listed under “Supersedes.”

Check that row’s Earlier build? cell. No action needed: stay on .1002. Apply the current build: install .1006.

Going forward

  • When a feature release is available, apply the matching DataON SBE package for your hardware family as part of the update.
  • The Updates blade may show only one cumulative update. This is expected; see skip-level updates explained.
  • For Microsoft’s full list of releases, build numbers, and supported update paths, see Azure Local release information.
  • Questions about a specific release: open a DataON support ticket.
